Improvements and New Features at Daft.ie

We have been quite busy over the summer here at daft, quietly updating and improving Daft.ie. You may have noticed some major improvements such as the new property sales section and others may have slipped your attention completely. Well just to let you know, here is the list of new things we have added in the last few months:

NEW PROPERTY SALES SECTION

Now you can stop renting and jump on the property ladder right here on Daft.ie. Because we have 100s of individuals and agents advertising with us, you will find houses and apartments for sale here that are not available anywhere else and hopefully at a great price too!

Here is want you can expect from browsing the property lists:

  • Up to 7 full colour photos with each sales ad
  • Houses, sites and apartments for sale all over the country
  • Properties for auction

NEW ANTI-FRAUD SYSTEM

The new anti-fraud system requires users to provide us with a telephone number before they can place an ad on daft. Since we verify this number, our users can trust that the ad they are looking at is real and that number they are calling is real. We realise this is inconvenient on anyone advertising but it only has to be done once and it makes daft a better site in the long run.

Why are we doing this?

Recently a few rotten apples have been posting false ads with false contact details. This is annoying to both our users searching for a place to live and to the innocent people that receive unwanted calls. Please realise that entering fake ads is considered fraud, which is a criminal offence. We report all incidents to the gardai computer crime squad which may result in a fine or jail or both.

HUNDREDS OF BUG FIXES AND IMPROVEMENTS

We have looked at every suggestion and error report that you have ever sent us and have now fixed every single bug we know of! We have also incorporated many of your suggestions on improving the site. If you feel we have left anything out email us at errors@daft.ie.

Improvements:

  • Photos: You can now ad a photo to your sales, rental, sharing or parking ad
  • Improved Performance: We have totally updated our infrastructure so that if Daft.ie is ever hacked or crashes, we can automatically switch over to another machine without you noticing. Also none of the data will be lost because we constantly replicate all our data to all our other machines
  • Pending ads: We have now improved the way we handle new ads entered into the system. You can see in mydaft when we read and put up your ad live. This usually takes about 1 hour (a lot less than the previous 24!).
  • Ad Management: You can now see all the information associated with each ad in mydaft. You can also easily add photos if you did not do so at first
  • Duplicate Ad Detection: Many of you will be happy to know that we have a new system in place to detect and delete duplicate ads. Many of you have complained in the past about one or two people abusing the system and putting up the same property again and again. This will now hopefully be a thing of the past, if any do slip past us please notify us of the offending ads.
  • Failed Replies: You may have noticed the strange new email addresses on enquiries coming from daft eg. lettings-assfdjh@ads.daft.ie. Up until recently some of you were not receiving replies to your ads, even though you could see that you did in mydaft. This was happening because spam filters were blocking emails from daft. The new scheme gets around the spam filters so that you don't miss out on any leads.
  • Bouncing Emails: Sometimes when users put up and ad on daft they type in their email address wrong. We can now detect this and tell them before they leave the site so they can correct it. This is better for them and better for you
  • Better email alerts: We updated email alerts to include photos and now you can cc a friend for free
  • Discussion search: You can now search through the discussions using a keyword to find a discussion that interests you

BUG FIXES:

  • Cannot see the edit, deactivate or renew links in ad management: This bug was due to a problem with Norton Internet Security 2003. It thought wrongly that these links were ads and removed them from the page. We have now modified them so that norton will not remove them
  • Area corrections: We apologise for taking so long on these ones! We moved some areas that were incorrectly classified as southside to north and vice versa.
  • Own room sharing search: If you specify own room, you will only see ads with own room.
  • Remember me: Clicking the tick beside remember me will mean you dont have to log in the next time you come back to daft.
  • Hundreds of small ones: We think we have fixed every little annoyance and inconsistency that you have pointed out to us ever since we launched this site 3 years ago. If you don't think we have please let us know by emailing errors@daft.ie
