Available for letting on a regular basis.
A restored traditional old cottage-style house on two floors, with wooden beamed ceilings and terracotta tiled floors. It has three rooms and a shower room downstairs, and two rooms upstairs, one of which opens onto a terrace about 12 feet square with a bamboo sunscreen, which has a panoramic view of the hills and sea.
There are two bedrooms. one a double and one a single. The house is quite simply, not luxuriously, furnished in a traditional style with comfortable cane and pine furniture, and has all the basic amenities, electric hot water, shower, fridge and gas cooker. There are electric heaters and also heaters run from butane gas and a wood-burning stove. The steps to go upstairs are quite steep, (look at the photo on the site).
Polopos is a quiet, very rural village, about 4 miles from the sea as the crow flies, and about 10 km (6 miles),a 20 min drive up a good winding road from the coast, with a spectacular view over the Mediterranean. On some exeptionally clear days in winter you can see the African coast. It is set on 800m high hills in beautiful wild rugged hilly countryside. These hills are called 'The Alpujarras' and are the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range.
There are massive hills, deep valleys, olive and almond trees, orange trees and vines, and mountain goats.Polopos is a very traditional and authentic farming village, not at all a sophisticated tourist village. Although close to the sea, it is right off the beaten track. Mules are kept in the village, goats come through the streets.
It is beautiful and a bit rough and ready and rugged. There is almost no tourist development nearby. There are no golf courses, theme pubs, discos etc. You can walk over the hills down to the sea in one and a half hours. The whole village is painted white.
It is ideal for walking, and relaxing. If you enjoy country walking, you can find 4 walks around Polopos described with photos on www.walkingworld.com (walks 4692-4695).There is also horse riding and guided walking/mountaineering etc available at Lanjaron, about 50 mins drive away.
Polopos is about one and a half hours south from the historic and cultural city of Granada with the famous Moorish Alhambra Palace, which is an ideal day-trip.(The weekly rent is from £180 (200e) in Winter to £230(240e) in Summer. It is easier and quicker to book by phoning me in London.)
