Property Overview:
- For Sale by Private Treaty
Property Description:
The emphasis is on light - with big cottage style windows, and light cream ceramic tiles reminiscent of marfil marble with bronze tiles inset in patterns throughout the ground floor. The main entrance is via a half door into the large porch. There are three windows and a skylight bringing light into the porch and a large triangular internal window carrying that light into the main house. The L shaped sitting room comfortably seats 9 on brown leather recliners arranged around an open flame gas fire, and 46" flat screen LCD TV with surround sound. The large beech finish fitted kitchen comprises a concealed siemans dishwasher, built in stainless steel double electric oven by Zanissi, and microwave at eye level. 5 ring Gas cook top, and large stainless steel Fisher Paykel fridge freezer. All the stainless steel appliances are coated with a finger print proof shield. The counter is carved from a pale cream stone - very reminiscent of marble but more resilient. The central heating system is Gas fuelled underfloor heating, with radiators upstairs. The water system is a closed fully pressurized system. There are three bathrooms. The main one on the ground floor serves the two ground floor bedrooms and boasts a large two man Jacuzzi bath, marfil marble mosaic tiles, and wall hung toilet. The two ensuites upstairs have showers, wall hung toilets, and built in cupboards. One is decorated in black and white mosaic, the other in white with blue and beige seastone mosaic. The open plan staircase is white oak with stainless steel hand rail and finials. The floors throughout the upstairs rooms are a limed oak finish, and the furnishings are antique country style finished in a whitewash giving the upstairs a light airy feel. LOCAL AMENITIES
The village of Tullycross is an easy walk from the house and boasts a grocery store,
pub and the Maol rae hotel which serves lunches and dinners.
Lettefrack at three miles, is a 5 minute drive, and a very busy little village with three
pubs, a lovely restaurant, and a very well stocked supermarket. Thanks to the local
headmaster Letterfrack hosts a number of small festivals during the year - the most
notable being sea week in Oct which is a celebration of all things maritime and
includes walks, talks, exhibitions, and some very fine traditional music, and bog week
in May which celebrates the local flora and fauna and again attracts many fine
musicians, lecturers and poets. The furniture college in Letterfrack turns out some fine
woodworkers and every year puts on an exhibition of the best work of the graduating class.
The National park is just across the road from Letterfrack and provides a selection of
lovely walks from wooded to mountainside, including one to the top of Diamond Hill.
Staff at the park run activities for children during the summer months and the
information centre gives a good history of the area.
Kylemore Abbey and gardens is also 3 miles from the house. The Abbey is currently
run as a private school for girls by the Benedictine nuns, but the spectacular and historic
building on the edge of kylemore lake is open to the public during the summer months,
and the grounds provide lovely lakeside walks. There is an extensive shop and coffee
shop catering to tourists. The old walled Victorian gardens, which have been restored
and refurbished in the last few years, display a great variety of plants and trees and
bring one back to another era.
