Sherry FitzGerald McDermott was established by Charles McDermott as McDermott Auctioneers in October 1992 at 36 Dublin Street, Carlow, employing only 2 people. Five years later the business moved to a larger premises on Barrack Street. The company went through a period of rapid expansion and opened branches in Athy, Co. Kildare in 1998 and in Tullow, Co. Carlow in November 2000. That same year McDermott Auctioneers began trading as Sherry FitzGerald McDermott under franchise from Sherry FitzGerald Countrywide.
