Daft.ie Launches Google Street View - See the Street From Your Seat!
What is Street View?
Street View is an exciting Google Maps feature which enables you to view and navigate 360 degree street-level imagery of Irish towns, cities and regions. You can move up and down streets, or look around in 360 degree panoramas.
How does Street View work on Daft.ie?
When you're viewing a property on Daft, you should see a new tab above the map - "Street View". Clicking this will bring up the Street View imagery for this property.
What does Street View mean for my property searching?
With the panoramic street level photographs you can get a feel for the property, its location and neighbourhood before visiting it. You can check out nearby landmarks to help with driving directions to the property! This could save you a lot of time, and be used in addition to the text description and interior photos to give you a better overall feel for the property and its' location.
From today, Street View is available for properties located in most major Irish cities and towns. Other areas will continue to roll out over the coming months.
How is the imagery produced?
Street View cars have special cameras that take photographs as they drive down public streets. Once the photographs have been taken they go through computer processing to make them ready for use on Google Maps.
When they have enough imagery collected and processed for an area they add it to Google Maps.
It goes without saying, therefore, that the imagery isn't real-time; in fact it usually takes several months from when the photograph is taken until it appears on Google Maps.
How does Google protect privacy?
Google have built a number of controls into the product to protect privacy, including the blurring of faces and licence plates.
You can also request the removal of an image - simply click on 'report a problem' on the bottom left of the Street View image and complete the form. You can read more about Google Street View privacy here.
