New figures published by the CSO show that over two thirds of all households own their main residence (either with or without a mortgage).

The data was released as part of the Household Finance and Consumption Survey which was undertaken between March and September 2013.

Its aim is to shed light on the financial habits of the nation.

The average value of the household main residence for those who own their home is €150,000 while the median value for land is €350,000.
