Upstairs are three Bedrooms (one having its own Sitting Room area - capable of providing an additional bedroom) and a Family Bathroom. The lower ground floor contains a very large garage and various useful rooms which lead to the upper floors (one of Mr B Berthelson's most prided features). Recent upgrades to the house include new bespoke kitchen & utility, bathrooms, a zoned oil fired central heating system and a new septic tank, together with external and internal painting. The residence has also been fitted with new and sophisticated burglar and fire alarm system, complete with cameras and monitoring services.


The very pretty Gate Lodge was built in c. 1800 (in need of refurbishment). Its bow front which was added in 1856 is believed to reflect the house it once served. It retains many historic features of interest such as the scallop shaped slated roof and profiled window surrounds. The Lodge was extended in 1970 to make a three bedroom residence. The Lodge and gated entrance form an attractive roadside composition which makes an eye catching addition to the surrounding rural landscape.


The excellent quality lands at Kevit are in one large block currently laid out in grass. Off a network of internal laneways are large manageable fields with good shelter, bound by mature trees and hedging. There is piped water throughout most of the lands. The farmyard contains a derelict cut stone yard and a 2 x span sheds & lean to. This farm would make an excellent beef, dry-stock or dairy farm.


The County of Cavan is of great beauty with spectacular countryside of rolling hills and breathtaking scenery. The wildlife and wetland environment of County Cavan's loughs is nationally and internationally recognised. The town of Cavan is a ten minute drive and has all the amenities that you expect from a large town to include a number of progressive schools & colleges. Cavan town expanded rapidly since the turn of the century with extensive urban regeneration and suburban expansion. A short drive finds The Farnham Estate Spa and Gold Resort, a luxury hotel leisure complex and 18 hole Jeff Howes designed Golf Course under the Radisson SAS international Hotel group. There is also the Cavan Golf Club course for the golf enthusiast within a five mile drive towards Cavan town. Dublin city centre and Dublin Airport are just over an hour's drive.

The original Kevit Castle, referred to in the Annals of the Four Masters as Castle Cosby, is now a ruin, although part of the old house had been a castle (and was one of the O'Reilly's of Breffni castles from the 13th century). It was on these walls a newer house with two round extensions at the entrance door was built in 1775. Phillip Smith originally from Cavan had made his fortune in the construction of the Pennsylvanian railway. In 1855 he returned
home to his native land bought the castle and lands and promptly returned the property back to original O'Reilly name Kevit Castle. He married and reared seven children. Various members of the Smith family have lived there ever since. The current house was built in 1958 and designed by the renowned Danish architect Mr B Berthelson. The Gate Lodge at the entrance gates is original and dates from c. 1800.


From the N3 approaching Cavan at the roundabout take a left signed, Ballinagh, Granard, Killashandra. Follow the signs to Ballinagh. In Ballinagh take a right signed Killeshandra, Crossdoney. Continue to Crossdoney in to the centre of the village, take a right signposted Cavan. Then take first right (after the old creamery) which is also on the right and continue on this road for 0.7km and the splayed pillared entrance gates and Gate Lodge for Kevit Castle are on your left.
