Sherry FitzGerald Lettings are very pleased to offer this handsome home to the rental market.
Located in Maglin, just a mile south of Ballincollig town centre; the setting is rural. Just to the west across fields of pasture is Ballincollig Castle, built during the reign of Edward III (1327-1377).
Our property is not as old as the Castle however it certainly has the character of a by-gone age.
Accommodation in the main house includes; the kitchen where everything orientates around the large table and the Aga, a living room, utility area, master bedroom with en-suite, three single bedrooms and the main bathroom.
In recent years, a new extension was added to the east, this double height space is bright and multi-functional, currently configured as a second living room.
Externally, the house is very private, secure behind electric gates and with mature gardens. It allows ample opportunities for enthusiastic gardeners and practice space for budding hurlers.
If you are searching for something a little bit special on the West side of the city, this Maglin home is certainly worthy of investigation.

**History of Ballincollig Castle (Wikipedia):
Ballincollig Castle is a Norman castle to the south of the town of Ballincollig, County Cork, Ireland built after the Norman invasion of Ireland. In its prime, the castle was inhabited by the Barrett family, who had control of the local area.[1] The castle still stands today, albeit largely in ruin.[2] The original keep still remains, as does most of the curtain wall and two towers.
An earlier castle may have been built on the site by Sir Robert Coll, a Norman knight, whose name also likely influenced the name of the town of Ballincollig (Baile an Choillaigh or the 'Town of the Colls').[3][4] While a date for this original construction is not confirmed, by 1468, the Barrett family purchased Coll's estate lands at Ballincollig, and improved and extended the castle site.[3][5] The main structures of Ballincollig Castle were constructed at this time.[5]
The bawn (enclosure) and tower house are located on a limestone summit,[1] which has a line of sight over the low land of the Maglin Valley. Beneath the castle there is a natural cavern which runs into the rock, and around it the remains of a moat.[6]
