The name Knocknaseed comes from the Irish, meaning either the hill of fairy mansions, or the hill of arrows. Whichever is the true origin, the history of the lands date back to the time of the great McCarthy Mor. The house itself was built later, in the Georgian era, as a hunting lodge for the Lords Kenmare. Equally, as the house is mainly laid out over a single floor, it is hugely accessible, although one stunning feature is the signature staircase that leads to a wrap around upper gallery. This offers a wealth of options, including a library, study space or home gym. In the 1800's, a toll bridge was located on the property, for local people that needed to cross the river Blackwater with their livestock on fair day, to get to Knocknagree village, which at the time, was a very popular day, with 13 public houses. KNOCKNASEED HOUSE The original Georgian hunting box at Knocknaseed has been upgraded and added to, to create a bright and welcoming home that retains its Georgian grace.
