HISTORY Shrewsbury Road was named in the honour of the 1874 marriage of George Herbert, 13th Earl of Pembroke to Lady Gertrude Chetwynd a cousin of the 19th Earl of Shrewsbury. William Starkie, former President of University College Galway, the last High Commissioner for Primary Education in Ireland, and a classical scholar.
