Capturing all the charm of a Regency-era hunting lodge, Wolfstown House was actually completed in 2005. The building project began in 1999, and such was the owner s attention to detail, and focus on recreating every feature to the original style and craftsmanship, the project saw the spending of both time and money in abundance. The results are stunning.
From granite exterior steps with cast iron railings, stone parapets and timber windows with mullioned arches; to tiled and timber floors, (flooring in drawing room and dining - reclaimed from a church) solid teak doors, marble fireplaces, stucco work and ceiling roses; Wolfstown House is a timeless delight.
Laid out on one floor, the house has a wonderful flow, with the family and more formal reception rooms to the front, and the bedroom accommodation to the rear. The four bedrooms are all doubles, and the master is ensuite. All have gorgeous views to the wonderfully well thought out mature gardens.
Wrought iron electric gates sent into stone piers welcome you to the sweeping hedged-drive and bring you to the house, which is close to all amenities, and yet is surrounded by lush and rolling countryside, with places to sit, and views of a small lake. In all Wolfstown makes an ideal family home, whether you are working in Dublin or closer to your new home in some of Ireland s finest countryside.
Wide granite steps lead to the hallway, with its feature black and white polished porcelain tiled floor. This is a light-filled welcoming space, with decorative cornicing and ceiling rose. To the left, the exceptionally elegant drawing room, is dual aspect, and has a bay French window to the garden. This room also has a solid wood floor reclaimed from a church and Carrera marble fireplace. The French windows open to a more formal part of the garden, with decorative box hedging and gravel walkways.
The dining room is a cosy yet formal space, with reclaimed flooring from a church and has more fine period-style detailing. The kitchen off the hallway, has a Belfast sink, Rangemaster cooker, and ceramic hob, polished maple timber flooring and doors to a sunny patio and terrace with a garden pavilion. There is also a utility room and separate hot press.
The four bedrooms are to the rear of the house, all enjoying lovely garden views. All are doubles, and the principal bedroom has an ensuite. The main bathroom has a Heritage Spa and Jacuzzi bath. All bedrooms are wired for telephone and TV.
Building a period-style house in the contemporary era gives you all the pleasures of charm and elegant ease, without the maintenance and conservation costs of taking on a historic property. In some cases, modern builds of older-style homes give themselves away through short cuts and inaccurate glitches, but the craftsmanship at Wolfstown House is second to none, as will be your standard of living here.
Gardens and grounds
Wolfstown House is set in the centre of its c.1.3ha (3.26) of grounds, and protected by electric gates, which have a video link to the house. Well maintained countryside surrounds, with views over a small ornamental lake. At the front of the house there is ample gravel parking for numerous cars.
Wolfstown House s own grounds are landscaped and include a sun terrace, a lawn and mature shrubs and trees. These include box hedging and topiary bushes, sheltering vistas, small gravel walkways and intriguing stone step. There is also a garden pavilion for al fresco dining.
Wilder woodlands spots allow for tranquil sheltered seating and views across the rolling County Kildare landscape where you can view wildlife, buzzards, other birds of prey and deer. A fruit garden is within this tranquil area, plus a seated area overlooking a small lake in the adjoining land. Two paddocks flank the avenue with post and rails fencing.
Close to the borders between Co Wicklow and Co Kildare, Wolfstown house benefits from being surrounded by some of Ireland s best and lushest pastures and being on the doorstep of what is known as The Garden of Ireland.
An idyllic rural location, the area is also well served with schools, shops, caf s, restaurants and bars, as Naas is just ten minutes away, with Dublin just over half an hour.
The Blessington Lakes are close at hand, as are the Wicklow Mountains National Park, and the Wicklow Way walking trail. There are golf clubs, including Naas, and Druid s Glen, Powerscourt and the K Club.
Additionally, GAA clubs, and a wealth of other opportunities for sports enthusiasts abound, although the area is, of course, most famed as being the heart of Horse Country. The racecourses at The Curragh and Naas are close by, and Punchestown is just down the road.
