History has it that in 1825 Arthur Robinson (a Brewer from Athlone) leased the old house from a Joseph Sproule and used it as a brewery. In 1848 Arthur Robinson assigned his leasehold interest in Annsfield House to his son, Arthur Jnr, who continued to operate a brewing business form there until the mid-1850s.
