Its exceptional interior has a large living room with open fire and an upstairs bar-dining area leading out onto a terrace. The area is noted for fishing being close to Lough Mask and Lough Corrib. There is Ashford castle grounds to enjoy or drive into Maam Valley to enjoy the wild beauty of Connemara.

~ Clonbur 5 miles away has a selection of pubs, shops and restaurants.

~ Travel to the thriving town of Ballinrobe in Co. Mayo, (9 miles) with its numerous shops, cafes, pubs, supermarket and pharmacies.

~ The bustling town of Westport, Co. Mayo (34 miles away) is one of Ireland's best known and popular visitor destinations and has many excellent restaurants offering varies cuisine and pubs with lively traditional music on offer, as well as shopping and conveniences such as a supermarket and pharmacies.

~Cornamona is in part of the Gaelteacht or Irish-speaking region of North Connemara. A short drive from Cornamona towards Maum will take you to stunning views across the Maam Valley.

~Ashford Castle sits just 15 minutes from Cornamona offers a wide range of outdoor actives including falconry, archery, tree climbing, Woodland zip wires and many more. Ashford Castle also has three restaurants catering from fine dining to rustic food and a 18 hole golf course and spa.

~In 1952 John Ford chose Cong village and Ashford Castle to set the film The Quiet Man. You can visit a replica Quiet Man Cottage which houses the Quiet Man museum and Pat Cohan's Pub which is open to the public and serves a selection of ales and food. Many of the film's locations are still unchanged since 1952.

~Cornamona village is one of the major centers for trout and salmon angling on the northern shores of Lough Corrib. There are large pike to be caught here, as is evidenced by the one exhibited in the local pub. There are local fishing guides to be found in the area.

~Most of the larger islands on the Corrib, including Inchagoill a holy site said to be visited by St Patrick, lie directly south-east of the Doorus Peninsula on which Cornamona is situated. Cruises can be taken to visit island and the two religiously historic churches built there.

~ Mount Gable lies just 2 km to the east, and is an easy climb of about one hour's duration. The effort is worthwhile because the views of Lough Corrib, stretching away to the south, Lough Mask to the north and the Connemara mountains to the west, are simply stunning.

~Croagh Patrick (The Holy Mountain) Co Mayo on 'Reek Sunday', the last Sunday in July, over 25,000 pilgrims make their way to the summit of the Mountain which is 750 meters in height to hear mass, a tradition that been carried out without interruption for around 5,000 years
