‘The Lodges’ are located on the perimeter of the resplendent Killarney House & Gardens. The initial Killarney house was built on Knockreer Hill in the 18th Century and was home to the Earl of Kenmare. The house was sadly destroyed by fire in 1913 and the family converted the Coach House and Stables into their new home -the Killarney House you see today. Killarney House has enjoyed a rich and colourful history including a visit from Queen Victoria in 1861, who used it as her base while she holidayed in Killarney. Renovated again in 2014 after falling into disrepair, the Gardens were re-opened to the public in 2016 followed by The House itself in 2017. The Gardens link Ross Road to The Golden Gates on Mission Road via beautiful walkways and picturesque scenery including ‘Cherry Walk’ – a gorgeous stroll under an expanse of cherry blossoms.
