Loughcrew House
Loughcrew House was designed by Charles Robert Cockerell and was built in the 1850's. The house is on 200 acres of parkland and sits in a valley below the Loughcrew Cairns and beside Loughcrew Gardens.
The interior has been decorated with Emily Naper's great artistic flair with an emphasis on comfort and relaxation for all guests. There are many beautiful walks and a private tennis court.

Loughcrew House can sleep up to 17 people. The house has 4 double rooms, 4 twin rooms and 1 single room. Loughcrew House is available to you for self catering. The house can also be rented exclusively for long weekends and week long breaks. For longer stays, please contact us for availability.

Loughcrew Gardens
Take a walk through centuries of garden and landscape fantasy. The central area of approximately six acres includes a lime avenue, extensive lawns and terraces, magnificent herbaceous border and physic border. Within the gardens stand a medieval mote and St. Oliver Plunkett's family church and Tower House. A host of enchanting features are displayed in a setting steeped in atmosphere and history. Meet Alice as she strolls through wonderland, encounter fairies and other creatures on woodland walks.

The result of years of restoration can be seen in this stunning garden comprising a magnificent yew walk, a walled garden, a canal and a parterre.

St Oliver Plunkett's Family Church
St Oliver Plunkett's Family Church, near Loughcrew House, has a large residential tower at the west end. It is four stories high including the attic. There is good pecked decoration at the doorway. A broad stairway rises to first floor level and a narrow mural stairway in the east wall rises to the second floor. At the south-east corner a spiral
stairway rises to roof level where there is a bell-cote. There are a number of large windows as well as small slits, some of which are blocked. There is a blocked fireplace in the south wall at the first floor.
The church is rectangular about 20m long with a south transept. There are large round-headed windows in the north and south walls. In the east wall is a large round-headed window flanked by two small square-headed windows. The transept has a two-light south window outside of which is a fine coat-of-arms. There are a number of 18th century
memorials in the churchyard and a good burial vault to the south of the church.
About 100m west of the church is a very fine motte with a single tree on top. There is some slight damage on the north-east edge but otherwise it is in good condition. It stands at one edge of a low terrace which stretches towards the church. This is the burial place of the old Loughcrew church, which is 15th Century or earlier. It
was the family church of Saint Oliver Plunkett, and is signposted. Church and churchyard are about half a mile east of Loughcrew House, about 2 1/2 miles south of Oldcastle.
